"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" will be released Sunday, July 31, though the book will be officially released at midnight Saturday. CNBC reports it is both Amazon's and Barnes & Noble's top preordered book.
"While our customers are looking forward to finding out what happens next to Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione's kids, we don't expect sales to nearly be as strong as for the original books, since this is of course a play script, based on a story by J.K. Rowling but written by Jack Thorne," said Hermans.
"Reading a play is a very different experience from reading a novel, and it won't be for everyone. We expect that the adult fans of Harry Potter, who grew up with the books, to be the majority of the audience for the new play."
Oblong Books began in Millerton in 1975, expanding to a second store, in Rhinebeck, in 2001. Both will be open at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
